Officials exclude any threat of epidemic outbreak in Tbilisi
There is no threat of any epidemic in Tbilisi after the flooding; however, the volunteers and civil servants involved in clearing obstructions may het vaccinated against stupor if they wish to.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on June 14 Tbilisi was affected by a heavy rain, which led to flooding. According to official sources, 19 persons were lost; and on June 18, the Georgian Ministry of Public Health reported that they had registered 457 people as victims.
During the cleaning works in the floodplain of the Vere River, about 500 people have addressed for vaccination, said Maya Kakabadze, the director of the specialized services of government agencies for anti-epidemic activities. According to her story, there are no prerequisites for any epidemic out break; however, it should be reasonable to vaccinate the population in the districts of Vere, Vake and Saburtalo, united into one administrative unit named Vake-Saburtalo.
According to Kakabadze, the city Mayoralty has not yet addressed the sanitary-epidemiological service with the initiative to vaccinate the population.
In order to avoid a mass stupor infection, on June 18, the Mayoralty issued an order, under which volunteers without special clothes are not allowed to clearing the Mziuri Park and Svanidze Street. This was announced by the Public Health Minister David Sergeenko, who also noted that in the working area of elimination the disaster aftermath, "it is not recommended to drink water from open taps, located in the territory."
