ECtHR collects 30,000 euros from Russia in favour of woman from Nalchik

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has satisfied the complaint of Maria Fanzieva, a native of Kabardino-Balkaria, who declared a violent death of her daughter at a police station. The applicant was awarded 30,000 euros.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 26, 2007, Madina Eneyeva, Fanzieva's daughter, was detained in one of the city marketplaces on suspicion of a theft of a skirt and taken to a police station, where she fell out of the window and died. She had three children left. According to law enforcers, Eneyeva jumped out of a third floor window. Fanzieva is sure that her daughter had no reason to commit suicide.

According to the decision of the ECtHR, the authorities had repeatedly refused to investigate the circumstances of Eneyeva's death. In July 2007, a criminal case was opened on abuse of office by an unidentified policeman, as the act of autopsy fixed bruises and scratches on Madina's legs, not related to her fall from the window, the decision says.

Let us note here that earlier the Russian party stated the need to reject Fanzieva's complaint. Russian authorities asserted that "the applicant's allegations about the murder of her daughter by policemen are based solely on her assumptions."
