In Armenia, residents of three villages protest against rise in electricity price

In the village of Oganavan in Armenia, residents of the villages of Oganavan, Karbi, and Ush of the Aragatsotn Region held a protest action against the increase in electricity tariffs. According to the protesters, the growth of electricity tariffs will increase the cost of food products, goods, and services.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 9, Robert Nazaryan, the Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), announced the increase in electricity tariffs starting from August 1.

The protest action was held in the morning of June 10. Kristina Mkrtchyan, one of the participants of the protest action, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the increase in electricity tariffs has no grounds, and thus, the protesters will continue to fight against the rise in prices.

The protesters have called on the Armenian government to refrain from raising electricity tariffs, since otherwise it will lead to the rise in prices for all goods and services and form an undue burden for local residents. The protesters have expressed their willingness to attend the similar rally in Yerevan on June 19.

On the same day, Yerevan has also hosted the protest action against the increase in electricity tariffs in Armenia. The protest action was organized by the youth wing of the centrist "Alliance" Party. Earlier, on May 27, the protest actions were held in 15 cities of Armenia.
