Experts: Imam Khamzat Chumakov's position conforms with Shafi'i canons of Islam

The conflict at the mosque of Nasyr-Kort has resulted from the decision of Imam Khamzat Chumakov to abandon the noon prayer on the day of Friday jumah prayer, Abo Ganizhev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 4 and 5, in Ingushetia, a conflict occurred between mosque-goers in the village of Nasyr-Kort. According to law enforcers, no one suffered in the conflict.

The statement on the cancellation of the noon prayer made by Imam Khamzat Chumakov originates from the results of the international theological conference held in Magas on May 15. This was explained by Abo Ganizhev, Doctor of Sharia Sciences.

"Supporters of the official Spiritual Administration are dissatisfied with the results of the conference," Abo Ganizhev has noted. According to him, Khamzat Chumakov "has long been in opposition to the Muftiyat." Abo Ganizhev has described the incident occurred on June 5 as a provocation, the purpose of which was to expel Khamzat Chumakov out of the mosque.

The issue of the permissibility of the commission of noon prayer on Friday is controversial question among the followers of the Shafi'i madhab (one of the schools of law in Sunni Islam; in Russia, Shafi'i madhab is common in Dagestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia, - note of the "Caucasian Knot"). This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" by Ali-Khadji Evteev, the former Mufti of North Ossetia.

"The countries, where Shafi'i fiqh (a set of social norms, Islamic law in the broadest sense, - note of the 'Caucasian Knot'), is widespread, such as Egypt, mosques never organize noon prayers on Fridays," Ali-Khadji Evteev has noted.
