HRC members scold Timur Aliev for unawareness about pogrom in Grozny

Today, members of the Russian Federal Human Rights Council (HRC) have discussed the pogrom in Grozny at their special sitting with participation of Timur Aliev, the head of the Chechen HRC, and Vadim Gaidov, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 3 unidentified persons attacked the office of JMG, which was used as an office for the Committee against Torture (CaT) as well.

A live webcast of the sitting was on the HRC's channel on the YouTube. The keynote speaker on the topic of the pogrom in Grozny was Igor Kalyapin, the head of the Committee against Torture (CaT), said the HRC's page on the Twitter. "I have reason to doubt the objectivity of law enforcement bodies and the Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Chechen Republic," said Kalyapin.

Pavel Chikov, a member of the Russian Presidential HRC and the head of the Association "Agora", asked Aliev, whether a criminal case has been opened about the incident.

"I have no such information," said Timur Aliev.

After that, members of the HRC highlighted the lack of awareness in the head of the Chechen HRC. "As noted by Pavel Chikov, there are signs of a crime committed, but you have no information about a criminal case. It is necessary to properly inform the public about the situation with the pogrom of the office of the Joint Mobile Group..." Andrei Babushkin, a member of the HRC, told Timur Aliev.
