Advocate treats trial of Khaiser Dzhemilev as attempt to pressure his father

Russian authorities are trying to put pressure on Mustafa Dzhemilev, an MP of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, by oppressing his son, the mother and advocate of Khaiser Dzhemilev, found guilty by the jury of the Krasnodar Territorial Court of manslaughter, believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Khaiser Dzhemilev was accused in Russia of a murder out of hooliganism and a theft of a firearm. According to investigators, on May 27, 2013, he shot and killed Fevzi Edemov from the rifle of his father – the former head of the Majlis (Parliament) of Crimean Tatar Mustafa Dzhemilev.

In the Crimea, local Tatars are repressed by law enforcers and severely intimidated, said Safinar, the wife of Mustafa Dzhemilev, adding that now the authorities "are trying to discredit her husband in any possible way."

Her opinion about the situation with Khaiser is supported by the lawyer Nikolai Polozov, who is defending Khaiser at the trial. He noted that after Mustafa Dzhemilev had a talk with Vladimir Putin, Russian investigators re-qualified the Khaiser's offence into a more serious crime.

The relations of Crimean Tatars with other nations living in the Crimea have always been tense; however, leaders of the Crimean Tatar had great influence among the population and managed to settle conflicts, said Andrei Nikiforov, a political analyst and a member of the Public Chamber of the Crimea. Now, in his opinion, the Crimean authorities are unable to fully manage the situation "in the area of ethnic and religious needs of the Crimea."
