Ramzan Kadyrov condemns attackers on JMG's office in Grozny

When commenting on the attack on the office of rights defenders in Grozny, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said that illegal actions will be suppressed regardless of the motives for those illegal actions. According to Ramzan Kadyrov, the incident involved relatives of Djambulat Dadaev, who was killed by policemen of Stavropol.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, in Grozny, the office of the Joint Mobile Group (JMG) was destroyed. Its staff members managed to escape.

Ramzan Kadyrov has reported that the investigation into the fact of the pogrom at the JMG's office is underway. The Chechen leader referred to the witnesses and noted that the people, who gathered in front of the JMG's office, were shouting: "Why did officials from the Investigating Committee fail to launch the investigation into the murder of Djambulat Dadaev if they fought against torture used by law enforcers?" Besides, they "asked for someone to come out and talk to them; however, their request was ignored."

Kheda Saratova, a staff member of the Human Rights Council under auspices of the Chechen leader, has confirmed the information that the number of the rioters, who assaulted the JMG's office, also included indignant Chechen residents and relatives of Djambulat Dadaev. According to Kheda Saratova, those people came to the Committee against Torture with a request to pay attention to the investigation into the death of Djambulat Dadaev. They knocked on the door to talk to the staff members of the organization; however, no one opened the door.

Earlier, Elena Milashina, a journalist of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", has claimed that it is the Russian and not Chechen authorities, who are responsible for the pogrom at the JMG's office. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has demanded from the federal authorities to immediately intervene in the situation to protect the lives and health of the rights defenders in Chechnya after the incident.
