Prosecution in Amirov's case states protraction of trial by defence

The motions to be moved by the defence in the case of Said Amirov, the ex-mayor of Makhachkala, will be heard only after questioning the prosecution witnesses, the court held after the prosecutor has criticized his counterparts for trying to protract the trial.

Today, the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don was to make an online questioning of two witnesses, who are in Makhachkala. However, the session began with the presentation of a number of defence's motions, including the sixth demand to disqualify the court.

Said Amirov, the former mayor of Makhachkala, his nephew Yusup Djaparov and other six defendants are accused of organizing murders, participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF), banditry, terrorism and arms circulation.

The court has also considered the petition moved by the advocate Valentina Khoreva, who was absent in the courtroom, because she was busy at another trial. Khoreva asked not to interrogate a secret witness Magomedov without its participation. Her client Zubair Mutaev, and other advocates and defendants supported the petition, but the prosecutor was against it, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The court dismissed the petition, saying that Mutaev's second advocate is present; and that is enough for questioning. When the defence tried to continue submit motions, the prosecutor said that, in his opinion, defenders are deliberately protracting the trial.
