23 women awarded on 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide

Today, the premium of the President of Armenia was granted to 23 women, born before 1915, who survived the events of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, and to the American Fund, which helped refugees and orphans during the genocide.

The women-survivors of the Armenian Genocide were awarded today during the ceremony of 2014 presidential awards. The laureates are six women living in Yerevan and the Armavir Region each, three women living in the Aragatsotn and Ararat Regions each, two – from the Lori and Kotayk Regions each, and one woman living in the Shirak Region, the News.am writes.

Each woman was awarded one million drams (about 2080 US dollars). Besides, the cash premium was granted to the above American Fund for Middle East, which helped in rescuing Armenian refugees and orphans during the genocide, the Armenpress reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the year of 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-2023. The. The Armenian Genocide was recognized by more than 20 countries. The Turkish side has its own view on the events of 1915. According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), "experts can study the history of the Turkish and Armenian nations only on the basis of impartial scientific evidence."
