"SOCAR" prepares defamation claim against Azerbaijani human rights defender

The Azerbaijani state-owned company "SOCAR" intends to initiate a lawsuit against human rights defender Bakhtiyar Mamedov. Lawyers of the "SOCAR" accuse the human rights defender of spreading the information, which discredits the company.

According to Emin Guseinov, the chief of the "SOCAR" legal department, the reason for the lawsuit raised from the statements made by Bakhtiyar Mamedov against Elchin Zulfugarov, the chief of the "SOCAR" transport department.

Emin Guseinov states that the human rights defender has accused Elchin Zulfugarov of the fact that his subordinates have joined an extremist movement and that the "SOCAR" embezzles state property, the "Trend" reported on May 25.

Emin Guseinov has also noted that the Bakhtiyar Mamedov's statements concerning Elchin Zulfugarov are groundless and are part of a campaign to discredit the official.

At present, the "SOCAR" is preparing the documents and is going to file a claim to the court in the nearest future, the "Day.az" reports.
