Radio Liberty editor-in-chief demands to stop repressions against Baku office

Radio Liberty intends to take all the necessary steps to protect the rights and interests of its employees in Azerbaijan, who faced problems after the Baku bureau of Radio Liberty was sealed by law enforcers. This was stated by Nenad Pejic, the editor-in-chief of Radio Liberty.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from December 26, 2014, the Baku office of Radio Liberty was repeatedly searched, and the radio station employees were interrogated at the Prosecutor's Office. Officials of the law enforcement bodies explained those actions by the progress of the investigation into the case of money laundering.

The activities of the Baku bureau of Radio Liberty have been suspended after the office was sealed during the campaign launched by the government of Azerbaijan. This was announced by the statement made by Nenad Pejic and published on the website of the Azerbaijani bureau of the Radio Liberty on May 23.

According to Nenad Pejic, the corporation is ready to take all the necessary steps to protect the rights and freedoms of Radio Liberty and its staff members.

The statement made by Nenad Pejic mentions the government's actions, which raised the protest of Radio Liberty, including the raid of the law enforcers to the office of the Baku bureau, the seizure of the documents, the seal, and the equipment without respect to the legislative procedures, and the fact of sealing of the office.

Besides, in his statement, Nenad Pejic has mentioned the detentions and interrogations of radio station employees without their legal representatives, the pressure on their relatives, and the unjustified bans on leaving the country imposed on some journalists.
