Parents of Chechen school graduates treat tighter control over USE as unreasonable

The Ministry of Education (MoE) of Chechnya has warned that this year's Unified State Examination (USE) will be taken by school graduates under video control and online broadcasts from classes. The continuous toughening of control at the time of the USE is worsening the outcomes, by causing panic among graduates and disturbing their concentration, said parents of Chechen schoolchildren.

According to the MoE, the USE-2015 in Chechnya will be taken by 19,128 people. The main stage of the USE will be held from May 25 to June 26.

All the premises, where graduates will take their USE are equipped with metal detectors; and at the entrance all the pupils will be subjected to personal search, for examinees were not able to bring their mobile phones or cribs with them, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the MoE of Chechnya.

"The main purpose of these measures is to make the examination process as transparent and honest as possible," said a ministry source.

The Ministry has noted that two points for taking the USE are established in Chechnya for the so-called "USE-tourists".

In recent years, as the ministry has explained, the republic fixed numerous cases of transfer of urban graduates to rural schools. This was due to the fact that taking the USE in the countryside was much easier than in cities, because of much lower level of control.

In 2014, a total of 16,456 pupils took their USE in Chechnya; over 22% of them failed with their mandatory exam in the Russian language; and about 16% – in mathematics.
