Court holds closed session on Saakashvili’s case

Today, the Tbilisi City Court has held a session on the case of the ex-Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili on the dispersal of the rally on November 7, 2007.

"Since some materials constituting a state secret were announced during the session, it was held behind closed doors," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the above court.

The next session on Mikhail Saakashvili’s case is scheduled for May 7. It will also be held in the closed regime.

In the opinion of Nana Kakabadze, the head of the organization "Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights", the closed regime of the trial dedicated to the dispersal of the rally on November 7, 2007, is inadmissible. "All the civil society of Georgia has been waiting for Saakashvili’s trial. People should know all the circumstances of that terrible dispersal. Therefore, the court had no right to close the trial. Journalists and the public should have the right to attend the sessions," Nana Kakabadze told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Giorgi Chividze, the advocate for Mikhail Saakashvili, has refused to communicate with the media, referring to a subscription not to disclose the details of the court session.
