In Yerevan, Armenian Genocide Museum receives new materials

In Yerevan, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute opened to the public after four years of renovation in the territory of the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

According to the administration of the Museum-Institute, at present, instead of the previous three halls, the Museum consists of 12 halls with total area of 2400 square meters. The costs for the reconstruction of the Museum-Institute amounted to 4.5 million US dollars.

In recent years, according to Aik Demoyan, the Director of the Museum-Institute, the Museum's collection has grown several times, and at present, it includes 90,000 documents. "We have got such a huge collection of materials that five more museums can be based on them," Aik Demoyan has noted in his interview to journalists.

According to Aik Demoyan, some exclusive materials were donated to the Museum-Institute by descendants of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide.

The exposition begins with the Armenian period in the Ottoman Empire prior to the genocide. Then, the Museum-Institute shows some materials on the beginning of the persecution of Armenians and materials on the preparation and implementation of the genocide. The exposition also includes all the subsequent period up to the present day.

The technical equipment of the Museum-Institute has also been upgraded. At present, visitors can use any of the twelve computer booths to choose materials they are interested in to study on the screen.
