Chechen woman detained in Nalchik when trying to leave for Syria

A female resident of the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya was detained by field investigators in Kabardino-Balkaria, while she was trying to fly to Turkey for further travelling to Syria to join her groom.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 10, it became known about detention of a female resident of Moscow in Nalchik. The young woman claimed she intended to leave for Syria together with a 25-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, with whom she entered a Muslim marriage. In that connection, the law enforcement bodies of Kabardino-Balkaria reported suppression of the channel for the transfer of female fighters to Syria.

Petimat Oisaeva, an 18-year-old resident of the Urus-Martan District, was detained in Nalchik on April 20.

The Prosecutor's Office of the republic has reported one more similar case, in which they carry out an investigation against parents of a minor female resident of the Lenin District of Grozny, who also intended to go to Syria.

According to the Chechen law enforcement bodies, only individuals left Chechnya for Syria. Meanwhile, the law enforcers have managed to identify about two dozen natives of the republic, who are fighting on the side of the militants in Syria.

Most of the Chechens fighting in Syria arrived in the country not from modern Chechnya, since the situation in the republic is under tight control. This opinion was expressed by Professor Mikhail Roschin, the Senior Researcher of the Centre for Central Asia, Caucasus, Ural and Volga Regions of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
