In France, four natives of Chechnya sentenced for aiding Syrian militants

In France, the court has announced sentences to four natives of Chechnya, accused of providing financial support and transfer of military ammunition to militants in Syria.

According to investigators, the natives of Chechnya sent to Syrian militants the uniform, the all-wheel-drive car, and the money collected by members of the Chechen community in France.

All four defendants were members of a criminal grouping acting in the territory of the European state in the period from September 2012 to November 2013, the "Gazeta.ru" reports with reference to the Associated Press.

The most severe punishment of five years of imprisonment was announced against 20-year-old Khamzat Ilyasov, the youngest convict, since he personally went to Syria to meet the militants.

46-year-old Bai-Ali Makhauri was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for providing logistical and financial support to the militants, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Two other 27-year-old members of the criminal grouping (their names were not disclosed) were sentenced to two years of imprisonment.
