MRC appoints sentencing in BORN case for April 21

The verdict to the figurants in the case of the extremist community "Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists" (known as BORN) will be announced on April 21 – the corresponding decision was made by the Moscow Regional Court (MRC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 31, the jury of the MRC rendered a guilty verdict to four BORN activists. Today, the prosecution demanded lifelong imprisonment for Maxim Baklagin and Vyacheslav Isaev, and Mikhail Volkov – to 25 years of high-security colony.

Maxim Baklagin, Vyacheslav Isaev, Mikhail Volkov and Yuri Tikhomirov were charged with involvement in the murders of the lawyer Stanislav Markelov and the journalist Anastasia Baburova, the Judge Eduard Chuvashov, antifascists Fyodor Filatov, Ivan Khutorskoy and Ilya Djaparidze, as well as of Rasul Khalilov, a figurant in the "Black Hawks" case, the athlete Muslim Abdullaev and the taxi driver Sosa Khachikyan.

Denis Zatsepin, the defender of Mikhail Volkov, has treated the maximum punishment requested by the prosecution as "a message to future figurants in this case."

"Now, there are those, who have to follow the way of these defendants; and the state prosecution, by requesting the most severe punishment, as if makes it clear: whether you cooperate with investigators or not; whether you plead guilty or not – maximum terms will be demanded for you," Denis Zatsepin said at the session.

Prior to the end of today's session, the defendants stated that they "ask for forgiveness for their crimes," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
