In Tbilisi, local woman killed in explosion in residential building

In Tbilisi, a woman was killed in the explosion in a residential building. Three other persons were injured.

According to officials of the Georgian Rescue Service, the explosion in a nine-storey residential house occurred after a gas leak.

After the explosion, four persons were rescued. Of them, one died and three others were brought to hospital. According to doctors, the state of one of the wounded is heavy, the TASS reports.

The explosion has shattered windows in several nearby apartments. The law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the explosion. The Gdansk District of Tbilisi is located on the outskirts of the city.

"The explosion between the 8th and 9th floors of the residential building occurred at 7:30 a.m. After that, rescue teams arrived to the place and immediately proceeded to search for people in the wreckage of the building," the Tbilisi Week quotes the spokesman of the Agency for Emergencies as stating.
