Examination finds two defendants in BORN's case mentally healthy

The Moscow Regional Court has started discussing the jury's verdict in the case of the "Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists" (known as BORN). The psychiatric examination has found out that two defendants are healthy and aware of their own actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the prisoners' dock contains Maxim Baklagin, Vyacheslav Isaev, Mikhail Volkov, and Yuri Tikhomirov. The number of the crimes imputed to them includes murders of antifascists, advocate Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova, Judge Eduard Chuvashov, and Muslim Abdullaev, the world champion in Thai boxing.

On March 31, after two days of discussion, the jury announced a guilty verdict in the case. According to the jury, it is a proved fact that the defendants committed crimes as members of the BORN and that they were motivated by ideological ideas. The jurors have found that the defendants deserve leniency for a number of episodes. Advocates of the defendants have declared that they are generally satisfied with the verdict.

On Wednesday, Judge Alexander Kozlov announced the results of the psychological and psychiatric examination of the defendants. During the examination, medical officers have revealed that Maxim Baklagin has never been registered by a psychiatrist and that he was and is able to control his deeds and actions.

With regard to Vyacheslav Isaev, the forensic medical examination has also revealed no mental abnormalities. Vyacheslav Isaev and Maxim Baklagin have no earlier criminal records.
