Four persons detained in Stary Cherek on suspicion of aiding and abetting militants

The National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) has reported the detention of four supporters of militants during a special operation in the village of Stary Cherek in Kabardino-Balkaria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) has been introduced in Stary Cherek this morning and cancelled after only four hours.

According to the NAC, the people detained in the village helped militants in selection and arrangement of bases for long-term stay in the mountains and woods, secret movement, and receiving weapons, ammunition, food and medicines. Besides, the detainees "were also actively collecting information on law enforces and public authorities."

The NAC reports on a large quantity of ammunition and drugs found during the inspection of places of residence of the detainees.

On September 5, 2013, a CTO regime was introduced in the vicinities of the village. According to law enforcers, members of the "Urvan" criminal grouping were found there, who opened fire when offered to surrender. As a result of the shootout, two persons were killed, one of whom was identified as Ruslan Makoev, the leader of the criminal grouping.
