Native of Armenia sentenced to two years in colony for shelling Turkish Embassy

The court has sentenced Arthur Mirzoyan, a native of Armenia, to two years in a colony-settlement for shelling the building of the Turkish Embassy in Moscow. The defence has disagreed with the verdict and insists that Mirzoyan has shelled the embassy in order to draw attention to the problem of recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 18, 2014, in Moscow, the 43-year-old Mirzoyan made two shots from his rifle at the nameplate of the Turkish Embassy in Moscow. He was detained; and law enforcement bodies initiated a case on hooliganism against him.

Already on August 20, 2014, at the court session, where his freedom restriction measure was decided, Arthur Mirzoyan pled guilty and wanted to pay a fine; however, having considered the case, the court sentenced him to two years in a colony-settlement, the "Panarmenian.net" reported on April 3.

The defence of Mirzoyan intends to appeal against the above verdict passed by the Khamovniki Court of Moscow. His advocate insists that Arthur Mirzoyan decided to fire at the embassy because Turkey would not recognize the Armenian genocide; and thus he intended to draw international attention to the problem, the "News.am" writes today.
