Residents of "Olympic" settlement in Sochi state its poor condition

Sochi residents complain about the poor condition and misuse of the cottage settlement built in 2011 for Olympic resettlers.

The settlement is located in the neighbourhood Vesyoloe-Psou, Adler District of Sochi. In total there are 79 cottages in it, says Olga Bogdan, a local resident. "The settlement is not guarded; it has been completely looted; it's subjected to destruction; empty houses are being destroyed and used not for residence. According to my calculations, there are 79 houses in the settlement, of which only 18 are inhabited," Olga Bogdan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We are living here for four years, but there's still no order here. I feel sorry for the state property. It is completely unattended. Look, windows and doors are broken; the equipment has been looted: the plumbing, gas boilers and electric distribution boards. Bottles from alcohol are everywhere; the walls are painted with obscene inscriptions and traces of blood," said the local resident.

The Sochi lawyer Rafael Khachaturov believes that the situation in Sochi should be examined by a public commission, which "would visit all residential objects and compile a list of empty apartments," which "had been intended for Sochi residents, but are used for other purposes"; and "officials of all levels should be under public control," the lawyer told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
