Rostov Region: authorities ask Moscow's help to solve Chertkovo problems

In the Rostov Region, the local authorities claim the impossibility to solve at the local level the problems of residents of the village of Chertkovo, who have every day to illegally cross the border with Ukraine to get to school, hospital, shops, and administration. Governor Vasily Golubev has announced the plans to hold a census and send requests to a number of the federal agencies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that more than 100 residents of four multi-storey buildings of the Rostov village of Chertkovo surrounded by the territory of Ukraine have appealed to the Governor of the Rostov Region with the request to resettle them from isolated buildings. The local residents can reach the centre of Chertkovo only through the Ukrainian village of Melovoye of the Lugansk Region. The problem escalated after in March, Ukraine changed the rules of crossing the border. And at present, according to the new rules, Russian citizens should present foreign passports at the border.

The residents of four houses of the village of Chertkovo appeared to be completely isolated. However, the local authorities are not able to solve the problem of their resettlement from the place. This was reported by Anatoly Nesterenko, the head of the rural settlement Chertkovo.

Anatoly Nesterenko has confirmed that to get to the centre of the village, the residents of those houses have to go or drive through the territory of Ukraine. The official has noted that to go through the railway is very dangerous.

He has also added that the free crossing that used to exist earlier is now prohibited. Meanwhile, according to Anatoly Nesterenko, the Ukrainian border guards deny the existence of the problem.
