Defence of Patimat Nasibova finds verdict too severe

The verdict to Patimat Nasibova, a resident of Dagestan, who was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of aiding militants, is too strict, and her defence intends to appeal against it, said her advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to investigators, in the period from August to October 2014 Nasibova provided accommodation in her house in Kirovaul to members of the Kizilyurt grouping of militants, and supplied foodstuffs to them. Today, the Investigating Committee has announced that Nasibova was sentenced to two years in colony.

The sentence was handed down on March 12 by the Kizilyurt District Court, said Khadizhat, the mother of Patimat Nasibova. "We didn't expect that she will receive a real term; we were sure that she would receive conditional imprisonment, since she has small children," said Khadizhat Nasibova.

In the coming days, the defence intends to appeal against the verdict, said Magomedzagid Omargadjiev, a lawyer from the Dagestani Bar Association, who believes that the verdict is too severe.

According to his story, the court took into account the fact that for 6 months Nasibova was under investigation; therefore, her real term will be 1.5 years.
