"Union of Informed Citizens" sues Armenian GPO
The Administrative Court of Armenia has accepted a lawsuit lodged by the "Union of Informed Citizens" against the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia, demanding to publish a letter sent by the head of the GPO to his Russian counterpart asking to transfer Valery Permyakov to the Armenian party.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 3, according to official information of the Armenian GPO, the country's Public Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan addressed his Russian counterpart Yuri Chaika with a request to transfer Valery Permyakov to the Armenian party.
The public organization "Union of Informed Citizens" has demanded, in its lawsuit, from the court to oblige the GPO to publish the above letter.
According to Daniel Ionnisyan, the head of the programmes of the above NGO, according to the Law "On Freedom of Information", the GPO was obliged to provide them with a copy of the letter within five days, but it was not done.
He added that, according to the above Law, even if the letter contained confidential information, the GPO was obliged to respond to the letter and explain its position.
Let us remind you that activists in Gyumri announced about a start, since January 23, of collection of signatures to the demand to give Permyakov out to law enforcement bodies of Armenia, and to amend the agreement on the presence of the Russian military base in Armenia.
