Adviser to PFPA head detained by police

Mamed Ibragim, an advisor to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has reported his detention by the police and accusation of disobedience. According to his story, he was released from the police, but warned about inadmissibility of calling people to take part in oppositional protests.

"Yesterday, on March 6, about two o'clock in the afternoon, a district police inspector came to me in order to take me to the Narimanov ROVD (District Interior Division). When we got into the car, policemen took away my cell phone; however, I managed, when leaving the house, to inform my media friends that I was being taken to the police. There, they announced to me that I was detained in connection with appeals to participate in the rally of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) against the devaluation of the manat and foodstuffs' price growth, as well as for disobedience to the police. A respective protocol was drawn up," Mamed Ibragim told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, he was taken to the head of the ROVD. "When the boss has learnt that the information about my detention had already reached the media, he began shouting at his subordinates on why they had admitted it. After that, the protocol was liquidated," said Ibragim.

"In the end, they let me go and warned about the responsibility for calling for participation in rallies," said Mamed Ibragim, who is a member of the rally committee of the action.

The oppositionist has stressed that "in his opinion, the police pursues the goal to intimidate the opposition."
