Rights defenders state arrest of Volgograd resident in ATO zone

Oleg Khlyupin, a Volgograd resident, was arrested by the authorities of Ukraine in the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO), Mikhail Yasin-Panin, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "ROD", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"According to his own story, in 2014, Oleg Khlyupin worked as a district policeman in Volgograd. A criminal case was opened against him; he was suspended from work; then disappeared and reappeared in Ukraine," Yasin-Panin told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "As it turned out, he decided to go to defend people of Donbas."

"Oleg Khlyupin is a native of one of the Caucasian republics, but he worked in Volgograd. We published this information with the idea that if some people are found, who had sent him to the ATO zone, let them hire an advocate for him," said Yasin-Panin.

According to his story, the Security Service of Ukraine (known as SBU), as they were told by rights defenders, "keep three residents of Volgograd, who had been arrested and tried. They are not covered by the exchange of prisoners of war. As far as I understand, nobody needs them in Ukraine, including the militias," said the head of the HRC "ROD".
