In Yerevan, 10,000 people attend opposition rally

In Yerevan, Freedom Square hosted a rally dedicated to the seventh anniversary of the tragic events of March 1, 2008. According to organizers, the rally was attended by about 10,000 people.

On February 19, 2008, Armenia held the election, as a result of which Serzh Sargsyan became President. Those people, who disagreed with the outcome of the election, staged a protest action that on March 1 turned into clashes with the police. 10 persons were killed in the clashes, and more than 260 others were injured. According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, eight demonstrators and two policemen were killed.

The today's rally in Yerevan began with the national anthem of Armenia. The participants of the rally observed a minute of silence in memory of victims of March 1, 2008.

The public knows the names of the persons responsible for the tragedy, and they are to be brought to justice. This was stated during the rally by Aram Manukyan, the Vice-President of the "Armenian National Congress".

On February 27, Yerevan hosted the press conference "The preliminary investigation on the case of 'March 1' after seven years." At the press conference, relatives of the victims stated that the criminal case of the deaths of 10 people on March 1, 2008, would not be solved and that the persons responsible for the tragedy would not be punished, since the Special Investigating Service only simulates the progress of investigation.
