Gannushkina: Russian flags at Nemtsov memory march symbolize country, not Vladimir Putin

Today, in Moscow, the mourning procession in memory of murdered politician Boris Nemtsov has gathered 50,000-70,000 people, organizers of the action report. One of the key attributes in the hands of participants of the action was represented by the Russian flag. In this particular case, it symbolized the people of Russia and not the President, said Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the Committee "Civil Assistance".

Boris Nemtsov, a Russian politician, born in Sochi, was killed in Moscow on February 27. He was one of the most famous Russian opposition politicians.

Today’s mourning procession began at about 3:00 p.m. Moscow time from the Slavyanskaya Square near the metro station "Kitay Gorod". It was finished at Greater Moscow River bridge, where Boris Nemtsov was murdered. People left bouquets and candles at the place of the politician's murder.

The murder of Boris Nemtsov can be compared with the murder of oppositional MP Sergey Yushenkov committed on April 17, 2003, and Galina Starovoitova, who perished on November 20, 1998. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the Committee "Civil Assistance".

The activist believes that after the Boris Nemtsov's murder, the people's attitude to the authorities will deteriorate, and Vladimir Putin's rating will drop.

"The murder of Boris Nemtsov made a variety of people to startle. There were a lot of Russian flags at the procession: all people took them, since the flag was a symbol of Russia and not a symbol of Putin. It is a promise to society and to the President. We, and not Putin, are Russia. There are many of us, and we are different. We have different political views, and we have something to say," Svetlana Gannushkina has stated.
