The Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has decided to consider the request for extradition of Valery Permyakov to the Armenian side and notified the Prosecutor's Office in Armenia about the decision.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during his visit to Armenia on January 19, Alexander Bastrykin, the Chair of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), promised that the trial in the case against Valery Permyakov would be held in Armenia and would be public; however, it would be held by the Military Court of Russia. On January 20, the Chairs of the Investigating Committees of Armenia and Russia signed an agreement to establish a joint coordinating headquarters on the case of the murder in Gyumri. On February 3, it was reported that the General Prosecutor of Armenia appealed to his Russian counterpart with a request to extradite Valery Permyakov to the Armenian side.

The Armenian General Prosecutor's Office has received from the Russian colleagues a respond to the request to extradite Valery Permyakov to the Armenian side. This was reported by an official from the Armenian General Prosecutor's Office. The Russian General Prosecutor's Office is obliged to report the outcome of the consideration in the nearest future.

Meanwhile, according to Martun Grigoryan, an MP of the National Assembly of Armenia from the "Prosperous Armenia" Party, MPs of the Russian State Duma argued against extradition of Valery Permyakov to the Armenian side.

The murder in Gyumri sparked a wave of protests in Armenia. On January 14 and January 15, the protest actions were held in Gyumri and Yerevan. On January 15, clashes between protestors and policemen occurred in the both cities.
