Chechen law enforcers have identified four local residents, who take part in warfare in Syria.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2013, the Chechen leadership admitted that residents of the republic are taking part in the Syrian war. It was reported that from a few hundred up to 1700 natives of Chechnya are fighting in the region.
According to the FSB, militants from Russia are fighting in Syria and Iraq for the self-proclaimed "Islamic State" (IS, earlier – the ISIL), says the review "Caucasians in the ranks of IS (ISIL)", prepared by the "Caucasian Knot".
