Militant shot dead in Nalchik outskirt was at war in Syria, law enforcers assert

In the course of a special operation in Nalchik power agents shot dead a 23-year-old local resident, who took part in the warfare in Syria as an explosive expert, said a law enforcement source.

The counter-terrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced today, at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time, in Nalchik in the territory of gardening partnerships "Druzhba" and "Michurinets". Power agents reported that a group of suspected militants had been blocked in one of summer cottages.

Different sources provide different figures of suspected militants killed in the outskirts of Nalchik. Earlier, a law enforcement source said that the assault of the house resulted in two killed militants. Later, information appeared that one person was killed in the CTO in Nalchik.

The militant refused to negotiate his surrender, opened fire on law enforcers, and was killed by return fire, said a local law enforcer.

"A native of Kabardino-Balkaria, born in 1993, had taken part in the warfare in Syria; he was an explosive expert. The house had a whole laboratory for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs); a ready to use IED was found there," the RIA "Kabardino-Balkaria" quotes a local law enforcement source.
