Actions in memory of terror attack victims in France held in Yerevan and Tbilisi

Today, residents of Armenia and Georgia gathered at rallies to commemorate the casualties of the terrorist attack on the editorial board of the satirical weekly "Charlie Hebdo" in Paris on January 7. The attack was directed against the freedom of speech, said the participants of the events.

On January 7, a fire was opened in downtown Paris, in the editorial office of the satirical weekly "Charlie Hebdo". The terror attack claimed 12 human lives; other 11 persons were wounded. The French satirical weekly was known for its cartoons depicting, in particular, Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad. Commemoration actions were held today in many countries.

Rally in memory of the victims of the terror attack took place at the French Embassy in Armenia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. Appeals to honour the memory of the dead and lay flowers near the embassy appeared after the terror attack in social networks.

People laid flowers and pencils, and put lighted candles. Organizers said that tragedy should bring people together in the fight against terrorism.

In Tbilisi today, more than 500 people came to the rally in memory of those killed and wounded in the terror act against the "Charlie Hebdo" in Paris. Participants of the rally condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the French journalistic community.

"Despite the fact that we categorically reject what the left-wing edition 'Charlie Hebdo' was doing, the incident did not leave anyone of us indifferent. This tragedy is another evidence of how fragile our world is, and how important it is to be prepared to defend freedom, no matter what the circumstances are," Gela Vasadze, a co-founder of the NGO "Free Zone", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
