In Sochi, local residents and guests complain about sharp rise in food prices

In Sochi, city residents and guests complain about the rise in food prices. According to sellers, the rise in prices mainly concerns imported goods, and it is connected with the depreciation of the rouble.

"In the grocery stores, instead of lowering the prices, sellers rise prices. I visited the local market, and the situation was no better there. The prices have jumped nearly two times, and pensions and salaries remained at the same level," pensioner Nadezhda Romanenko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In their conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, residents of Krasnodar, who arrived in Sochi to celebrate holidays and stayed in the "Burgas" vacation hotel, also complained about the high price of air tickets and prices in restaurants and cafes.

Prices for domestic products have not changed, while the cost of imported food has increased because of the depreciation of the rouble. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Ekaterina, a seller from the shopping centre "Alexandria".

"However, people still buy imported goods. They buy cheeses at 1000 and 1400 roubles per kilogram. But, of course, they buy it not in such large quantities as earlier. People cut their portions," the seller has noted. The woman has also added that some suppliers "overprice the products."
