NCFD residents complain about rise in food prices

In Northern Caucasus, the fears of some local residents, who in mid-August predicted the growth in food prices, are confirmed. According to residents of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), the average rise in prices reached 20-25%.

Let us remind you that in mid-August, residents of the southern regions of Russia pointed out that they were concerned about possible growth of food prices in connection with the ban on the delivery to Russia of goods from countries that had imposed sanctions against Russia as a result of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Managers of trade organizations interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent have noted that "there is no shortage of goods; however, prices are increasing."

In Dagestan, according to residents of the region interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the growth in food prices has reached 20-25%, as compared to the summer prices.

Residents of North Ossetia, Adygea, Volgograd, Astrakhan, and Kalmykia also complain about the sharp rise in food prices.

Experts see the reasons for the situation in lack of domestic products to replace import, low portion of domestic production, increase in retail prices, and dependence of the regions on national trends at the consumer market.
