Two natives of Northern Caucasus complain of unfair detention in Moscow while trying to buy currency

A man from North Ossetia and a woman from Kabardino-Balkaria, delivered on December 12 to the Basmanny ROVD (District Interior Division) of Moscow after they tried to buy foreign currency at one of local banks report restriction of their rights and interrogation without reason by agents of the FSB and the Centre to Combat Extremism of the Moscow GUVD (Chief Interior Department). The woman has filed a complaint against the officers.

According to the woman, the agents asked her about the circumstances of her acquaintance with her companion. She wrote an application to the head of the ROVD about violations of her rights.

The second detainee, named Akhsar Tseboev, a native of North Ossetia, said that policemen asked about his religious beliefs.

According to a source from power bodies, these actions were related to "the need for increased security during the pre-holiday period." He also expressed the opinion that "a law-abiding citizen should not confused with such checks, if he has nothing to hide."

The list of the agency for financial monitoring, published on its website, contains, as of December 13, 3436 citizens suspected of extremism (Akhsar Tseboev is listed there at No. 3104 – note of the "Caucasian Knot").
