CaT reports about chasing of its mobile group in Grozny

The members of the mobile group of the Committee against Torture (CaT) of Chechnya, working in the republic, were followed by unidentified armed men, said a source from the committee.

"Our group is afraid to return home. Some strange people are pursuing the car," says a message posted on the CaT's page on the Facebook.

Dmitry Dimitriev, a member of the mobile group, has confirmed this information. According to his story, at the moment, there is no danger.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Igor Kalyapin, the head of the CaT applied to the bosses of the Prosecutor's Office and the ICRF demanding to check Ramzan Kadyrov's introduction of the principle of collective responsibility for the families of members of the armed underground for compliance with the laws of the Russian Federation. After that Kadyrov stated the need to check a man named Kalyapin for his involvement in organizing the attack on Grozny on December 4.

The joint mobile group for the Chechen Republic is one of the regional branches of the CaT; its office is located in Grozny. "Lawyers of the territorial units carry out preliminary checks and hold public investigations into citizens' applications on abuses committed by law enforcement officials. They interact with citizens, state authorities and media," says the website of the CaT.
