In Dagestan, Kamil Guliev arrested for a month by court ruling

Today, the Karabudakhkent District Court of Dagestan has ruled to arrest Kamil Guliev, whose disappearance was reported by his wife, for one month. His defence intends to appeal against the ruling.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 5 Aisha Guliev stated the disappearance of her husband Kamil Guliev and expressed her concern that he could become a victim of kidnapping. On December 6, she filed an application to the Sovietskiy ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala about her husband's possible kidnapping. On December 8, an investigator from the Karabudakhkent ROVD contacted the relatives and informed that Guliev had been detained on suspicion of illegal arms circulation and placed in the temperary detention facility.

Today, at the court session, the investigation party has justified the need to arrest Guliev by the fact that while at large he can continue his criminal activities. The suspect, according to investigators, was carrying in his bag grenades, known as "khattabkas", and thus, as claimed by investigators, his criminal activities were confirmed, as Asadullah Akhmedov, who is defending the interests of the detainee jointly with the appointed advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Akhmedov disagreed with the investigators' arguments and treated his client's arrest as "not based on the law," saying: "The decision of the Plenum of the Russia's Supreme Court said that the exceptional measure should be used only in exceptional cases, while the investigator and the prosecutor have failed to present a single argument in support of such exclusivity."

Guliev's face has traces of violence; "his face was swollen; and a haematoma was seen on his eyelid," added the lawyer.

"I spoke to Kamil; he looks very intimidated; it is clear that he was beaten up; apparently, this is why he made a confession; naturally, this evidence of his will be the main argument at the trial," he said.
