Azerbaijan has postponed consideration of appeal lodged by activist Orkhan Eyubzade
The consideration of the appeal complaint lodged by Orkhan Eyubzade, a young activist of the "Musavat" Party, sentenced to two years in prison, has been postponed indefinitely. His advocate told about worsening of the activist's health.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 9 the state prosecutor suggested to sentence the activist to three years in prison – the maximum penalty under the article. On October 15, the court sentenced Eyubzade to two years in prison.
On November 19, the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), chaired by Judge Djamal Ramazanov, held a preparatory session on the activist's complaint, said his advocate Asabali Mustafaev.
"We moved a petition asking to consider the appeal complaint by holding a partial repeated judicial investigation. We insisted on investigating the issue of unjustified and illegal selecting arrest as Eyubzade's freedom restriction measure," said Mustafaev.
The appeal complaint asked the court to recognize violations of Eyubzade's rights to defence and personal immunity.
According to Mustafaev, the health condition of Eyubzade has sharply deteriorated in recent days.
Earlier, Samir Kazymli, the coordinator of the Alliance in Defence of Political Rights, said that Eyubzade was persecuted for political reasons.
