Karaman hunger-strikers replaced

In the morning on Monday, December 1, seven hunger-strikers in Karaman (Dagestan) were replaced by new protesters. Gamzat Khangishiev, who is representing local residents, said that the protesters see no actions undertaken by the authorities, which could be a prerequisite to stop the hunger strike.

The hunger strike in Karaman is held by Tarki villagers from November 10; they demand to restore the Tarki District and include the territory of Karaman and Mount Tarki-Tau into it and hold their action by shifts, replacing each other.

According to Khangishiev, the seven people, who have quitted the hunger strike, feel bad, but no one was hospitalized. They were replaced by residents of the villages of Tarki, Kyakhulay and Alburikent.

"Many people are irritated with the words pronounced by the head of the republic Ramazan Abdullatipov live on air on November 26. He spoke about 'hunger-striking villains', and although he did not expressly pointed to protesters in Karaman, yet people are outraged," said Khangishiev.

According to his story, people go on planting fruit trees in Karaman. "Today, they also planted about 150 trees," he said.

The plan to lay a park in Karaman was announced on November 28 by Magomedemin Gadjiev, a member of the governmental commission on Karaman problems. However, on November 30 several dozens of villagers of Tarki, Alburikent and Kyakhulay planted fruit trees, instead of the park, in the land plots allocated by leaders of community councils.
