Case of woman from Grozny accused of distributing extremist materials sent to court

An administrative case initiated against a local woman, accused of distributing extremist materials, has been sent to the Lenin District Court of Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that two weeks ago in Grozny, law enforcers held a series of inspections in the stores selling Islamic products, where they searched for the banned religious literature. The inspections were carried out throughout the whole week, and the law enforcers acted together with the representatives of the Muslim clergy. Employees of the stores argued they did not always know exactly which books are included in the list of banned literature.

As reported by the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), on November 14 a few copies of the brochure "Fortress of the Muslim", which is forbidden for spreading in Russia by the 2012 ruling of the Orenburg City Court, were confiscated from the owner of one of the retail outlets of Grozny.

The woman faces an administrative fine in the amount of 1000-3000 roubles or an administrative arrest for up to 15 days.

Residents of Chechnya are not unanimous in their opinions about the cases initiated for dissemination of extremist materials.

"Today, when extremist ideas are being spread everywhere, our main task is to protect our people, especially young ones, from the negative influence of religious pseudo-leaders," said Khamzat, the Imam of a Grozny mosque.

Shakhman D., a resident of Grozny, a historian by background, finds it unnecessary to pay attention to some religious publications in Russia and does not exclude that in this way they discredit the Islam as one of the world's major religions.
