In Volgograd, rally against liquidation of "Khimprom" gathered 800 people

Today, near the "Vanguard" Cinema, in the Kirov district of Volgograd, a rally was held against liquidation of the "Khimprom" Factory.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2012 the "Khimprom" Factory, a unit of the State Corporation "Rosteh", was declared bankrupt. Factory workers appealed to the President of the Russian Federation with a demand to prevent mass lay-offs; however, the "Rosteh" made the final decision to close "Khimprom".

According to the organizers, the today's event was 800 people strong.

Protesters were holding banners reading "Rosteh to be accountable for collapse of Khimprom!", "Who will nourish our children?", "Emergency stop of the factory is a crime!", "Rosteh, don't make ecological bomb out of Khimprom!" and others.

In their speeches, participants of the rally spoke about the dangerous environmental consequences of a rapid shutdown of the factory, and heavy social consequences for the dismissed employees.

The participants of the rally adopted a resolution addressed to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the State Duma Sergey Naryshkin, the Director General of the SC "Rosteh" Sergey Chemezov demanding to stop the destruction of "Khimprom" and stop mass dismissals.
