Three women from Makhachkala hold hunger strike demanding Abdulatipov's resignation

Three Makhachkala women went on hunger strike demanding resignation of the republic's leader and restoration of due order in the work of law enforcement bodies, Nurmagomed Gazimagomedov, the chairman of the Dagestani regional public movement "For Justice and Unity", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

The action takes place in the house of Marzhanat Arslankhanova, who began her hunger strike on November 19. On November 21, Khadizhat Omarova and Patimat Alieva joined her. According to Gazimagomedov, the hunger strike "is a continuation of the action, terminated on November 12."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, a group of Dagestani residents announced a hunger strike protesting against corruption in the republic and demanding resignation of Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov. On November 12, the hunger-strikers stopped their protest action for health reasons.

"The action takes place under the slogans: 'Abdulatipov, resign!', 'Down with lawlessness!' and 'We demand to clean the system of justice!' For many years, the three women have been trying to seek justice at courts, but without success. In October, a large delegation of our members came to Moscow, but failed to find justice there. Therefore, the women decided to go on hunger strike," Nurmagomed Gazimagomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The hunger-strikers, who stay in a private house in Makarov Street, have been already visited by officials of the MIA and FSB, said the protesters. "They checked our documents and listened to our demands," said Marzhanat Arslankhanova.
