Makhachkala hunger-strikers suspend their protest action

Today, the initiative group of residents of Dagestan, who protest against corruption and demand to dismiss Ramazan Abdulatipov, has temporarily suspended their hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the hunger strike in a house in a Makhachkala outskirt is held from October 29. The protesters assert that they try to draw attention to the problem of corruption in the republic and achieve resignation of Ramazan Abdulatipov.

The protestors have decided to suspend their hunger strike after the meeting with representatives of the Government of Dagestan. During the meeting, the Government of Dagestan has decided to establish a commission to address each problem voiced by the hunger-strikers, the "Caucasian Knot" has been told by the protestors.

According to them, the commission is to include "hunger-strikers and officials responsible for solving their problems." The list of the responsible officials and the commissions' work plans are to be formulated within two days.

Besides, the protestors have also noted that they reserve their right to resume the hunger strike at any time. According to the protestors, they will resume the hunger strike in case if "the authorities fail to take urgent steps to resolve problems."

Moreover, Gadji Aliev, one of the protesters, has said that he refuses to stop the hunger strike. According to him, he does not believe the authorities and he will stop his protest action only when his demands are fulfilled.
