In Grozny, law enforcers detain young people while searching for militants, locals report

Last night, in the Staropromyslovsky District of the Chechen capital, law enforcers carried out "targeted" measures and detained young men, who were released after being beaten. This was reported by local residents.

"At about 2:00 a.m. of October 28, armed policemen broke into our apartment. Without any explanations, they took my son away with them. They even did not allow him to put on his jacket. They forced him into their car and drove him away to some unknown destination. None of them presented any IDs. They only shouted threats and insults. Only in the afternoon, we found out that he was being kept at one of the police regiments in Grozny and that other 10-12 young men were also detained. All of them were subjected to beatings and tortures. The policemen demanded from the detainees to tell them about the whereabouts of a wanted militant," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a woman from the city of Grozny, who preferred to remain anonymous.

According to the woman, her son was not released until the late evening of October 28. "He's got cuts from knife on his back, and his entire body is covered with bruises. We are not going to go to the hospital, since we are frightened," the woman says.

Officials from the Chechen law enforcement bodies do not comment on the information about the detentions and note that the search for a suspected accomplice of the organizer of the explosion committed on the Day of Grozny is underway.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, a suicide bombing was committed in Grozny. An explosion occurred in the centre of Grozny before the concert dedicated to the Day of the City. As a result, according to the official information, five policemen were killed, and 13 other law enforcers were brought to hospital.
