Special operation in eastern Chechnya still brings no results

In Chechnya, law enforcers still have not succeeded in revealing the whereabouts of a suspected member of the armed underground, who fled after a shootout with law enforcers that occurred in the Gudermes District on October 25. The law enforcement bodies do not rule out that the suspect could enter the territory of neighbouring Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 25, in the course of search operations carried out in a wooded area between the villages of Engel-Yurt and Kadi-Yurt of the Gudermes District, Chechen law enforcers encountered two armed men. When offered to lay down their weapons and surrender, the armed men opened fire. One of them was killed by return fire, and the second, according to the law enforcers, was wounded, but managed to escape. The law enforcers have launched a search for him.

Till present, the search activities, which are underway in the Gudermes District of Chechnya, have not yet succeeded, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

"According to the information available, the militants came to the Gudermes District from Dagestan. It is possible that the wounded militant could flee to the neighbouring territory," the police officer has noted.
