In Volgograd, officials promise to support mothers of large families at federal level

In Volgograd, members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Regional Labour and Social Protection have discussed the problems of protesting mothers of large families and their proposals. The women have stated that the meeting had failed to solve their problems. Besides, they announced their intention to continue their protest action. Officials have offered the mothers of large families the options out of their difficult situations and reported that they will seek the implementation of some proposals voiced by the protestors at the federal level.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from September 30, in Volgograd, mothers of large families started a protest action. They are standing in front of the government building and demanding a meeting with the Governor. On October 13, two protesting mothers of large families voiced their wishes at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Volgograd Region: to apply the Moscow experience to provide housing for families, who had taken two or more children for raising, and to provide assistance to families, where five or more children born before 2007 are being brought up, who did not receive maternity capital, and where children receive education.

According to MP Elena Popova, starting from the past year, the officials are discussing the need for a separate programme aimed to certain categories of citizens, including families with children.

"And we have asked to create a working group under the Ministry of Construction. This group is established, and we are waiting for the second year, when its members gather for a meeting," Elena Popova has added.

Svetlana Kuznetsova, the Deputy Minister of Construction of the Volgograd Region, has emphasized that in the Volgograd Region, 34,000 families are on the waiting list to receive social housing, and about 3000 of them are families with many children.
