On the eve of Politkovskaya's murder anniversary "Caucasian Knot" encourages colleagues to continue her work in the Caucasus

On October 7, journalist will mark the 8th anniversary from the date of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. To pay tribute to her memory, the international human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) has announced an international campaign, and the "Caucasian Knot" has already joined it.

As a part of the action announced by the AI and scheduled for October 7, people will fold paper flowers from the front pages of publications or printed screenshots of the front pages of electronic and online media, participating in the AI's action. The "Caucasian Knot" has also used a screenshot of its front page to make a flower for Anna Politkovskaya. On the day of the Anna Politkovskaya's death, activists of the AI will bring those flowers to the memorial plate on the building where the office of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" is located. The AI asks the editions, participating in the action, to compose brief messages of solidarity to be published on the websites of the AI and the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" and also to post them on their websites if possible.

The "Caucasian Knot" joins the action and calls on the Russian media to do their work in good faith, like Anna Politkovskaya did. Despite the criticism and pressure, Russian journalists' duty is to regularly cover human rights violations in the regions of the country and especially in Northern Caucasus. In its turn, the "Caucasian Knot" continues the work of Anna Politkovskaya by describing violations of the rights of people in Southern Russia and the Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that back on December 14, 2012, the MCC found the former policeman Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov guilty of Politkovskaya’s murder and sentenced him to 11 years in prison. On June 9, 2014,  the Moscow City Court found other five defendants also guilty in the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. Two of them were sentenced to life-long imprisonment. Other defendants received prison terms from 12 to 20 years.
