Aisha Selimkhanova reports on policeman's pressure on complainant of sexual assault

Law enforcers are putting pressure on the Dagestani woman, who earlier had a complaint about the sexual assault against her committed by a policeman. The appropriate complaint was filed to the investigating authorities, stated a member of the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of August 24, in Makhachkala, a policeman detained a local woman. The incident was reported by Asiya Patakhova, a friend of the detained woman. After the detainee was released, Gulnara Rustamova, the leader of the DRPO "Pravozaschita", filed a complaint to the investigating authorities of Dagestan stating that the young woman brought to the Centre to Combat Extremism (CCE) had been sexually assaulted.

On September 4, a policeman came to the house located in the village of Novokayakent of the Kayakent District, where the parents of the young woman, who had filed the complaint about sexual assault, lived. The policeman demanded from the complainant's parents to inform him about her whereabouts and provide him with the number of her mobile phone, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Aisha Selimkhanova, a member of the DRPO "Pravozaschita".

According to Aisha Selimkhanova, law enforcers also visited the places of residence of the complainant's friends and voiced the same demands.

"We called the on duty units of the police stations in both places. We got the answer was that no local policemen were sent to the above mentioned places," Aisha Selimkhanova has stated.

According to her, the victim has filed a complaint to the Investigating Division for the Soviet District of Makhachkala of the Investigating Department (ID) for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) asking to take measures to ensure protection of herself and the witnesses.
