Chechen police officer kills local by inadvertence, then takes his own life

An officer of the Chechen interior ministry shot a local dead by accident in Chechnya on April 28, and then blow himself up with a grenade. "Chechen OMON (special operations police platoon) officer Aziyev badly wounded local Iskhanov as a result of inattentive handling of his Makarov pistol in the village of Staraya Sunzha, Chechnya's Grozny district. The wounded man died in a hospital later. Having learnt about it, Aziyev took his own life," a source at the republican interior ministry said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent. In his opinion, the OMON officer did away with himself in order to avoid vengeance from relatives of the killed man.
